Are there any age requirements to move into Misericordia Terrace?
The age requirement to move into Misericordia Terrace is 55 years of age or older.
Is it possible to pay only for rent and opt out of meals?
Misericordia Terrace’s rates include residents’ suites, lunch and dinner, weekly housekeeping, recreational activities, maintenance and much more. It is not possible to opt out of meals/services.
Will pets be allowed?
Sorry, residents are not allowed to have pets of any kind—this includes cage and aquarium dwellers.
Will smoking be allowed?
Sorry no, residents and guests are not allowed to smoke tobacco, marijuana, vape, or use e-cigarettes etc. in the apartments, common areas or outdoor areas of the Terrace (including the entrance, which has an 8-meter rule).
Will visiting pets be allowed?
Visiting pets are welcome if they are under constant control by the guest/handler and are capable of abiding by safety and other regulations which may be established. Pets are not permitted in dining rooms or multi-purpose rooms. Visiting pets are not to be left unattended in apartments. Any mess and or damage created by a visiting pet must be cleaned or repaired by the tenant at the tenant’s expense.
Will there be parking available?
For residents who require parking, spaces will be available in Misericordia’s parkade at 25 Sherbrook Street. Access between Misericordia Terrace and MHC will be through an enclosed second-floor skywalk above Wolseley Avenue.
How long are leases?
Leases are month-to-month.
Can a resident request and pay for a bathtub to be installed?
No, bathtubs cannot be installed in the suites.
Can a resident request and pay for a stove to be installed?
No, stoves cannot be installed in the suites.
Are additional small appliances allowed in the suite?
Yes, certain small appliances are allowed in the suites (e.g., crockpot, toaster oven, etc.). There will be a process for any electrical item to be pre-approved by our staff for everyone’s safety.
Will there be additional storage space (for bicycles or other items)?
There are no separate storage space/lockers outside of residents’ suites.
Is there a display suite set up to view?
There will be a display suite set up a few months before Misericordia Terrace construction is complete. Stay tuned!
Will there be an exercise room/gym on site?
There is no specific exercise room/gym at Misericordia Terrace, however exercise classes will be included as part of the scheduled activity programming.
What size will the fridge be in the suites?
The fridge (includes freezer) is a double door compact refrigerator 33½” high, 20” deep 18¾” wide.
Would a small freezer/deep freezer be allowed in the suites?
All suites except The Cornish have a wall plug with a dedicated circuit which could be used for a freezer in either the laundry room (The Sherbrook) or in the storage room (The Maryland and The Westminster). There will be a process for any electrical item to be pre-approved by our staff for everyone’s safety.
Will there be carpeting in the suites?
No, there is no carpeting in the suites.
Can I bring my own furniture?
Absolutely, all suites are left unfurnished and you can bring whatever furniture/artwork etc. that will make you feel comfortable in your new home.
Does Misericordia Terrace provide personal health-care services?
Misericordia Terrace does not provide personal health-care services to residents.
Can someone receiving personal health-care services through Manitoba Home Care or private care move into Misericordia Terrace?
Of course! We expect many residents will be receiving personal health-care services from Manitoba Home Care and/or private care.
Does Misericordia Terrace have emergency call buttons in suites?
No, Misericordia Terrace does not have emergency call buttons in suites. As an alternative, each resident is provided with a personal medical alert device from Vitoria Lifeline, connected to 24-hour monitoring. Residents are always encouraged to call 911 directly in the event of an emergency.
Which meals are included in the rent?
Lunch and dinner are included with two entrée options per meal.
Are the meals made in-house?
Yes! Misericordia Terrace has its own commercial kitchen and staff.
What if residents require special diets (e.g., diabetic, gluten-free, etc.)
Although the Misericordia Terrace kitchen does not cater specifically to specialized diets, we do offer a wide range of choice and residents should be able to build a balanced, nutritious meal for their personal needs.
What if residents have a food allergy or intolerance?
Unfortunately, our meal program is not designed to accommodate severe food allergies or intolerances.
What happens if a resident is ill and unable to come to the dining room?
There will be a surcharge for meal delivery in the event a resident is unable to come to the dining room for meals.
Is nursing or other medical staff available?
No, this is an independent living residence, not a care home.
Is there assigned seating in the dining room?
You are free to sit alone or with whom you please. Mealtimes will be announced preopening and meal periods may be modified from time to time.
Can I invite friends and family to meals?
Absolutely! You can purchase guest meal vouchers and make reservations at the reception desk.
Can I have a glass of wine with my meal?
Yes, the dining room has a full liquor license.
Will overnight visitors be allowed in suites?
Yes, guests may stay overnight in suites on a temporary basis. Please inform our reception staff if guests are staying over. Guests must not disturb other residents (no excessive noise) and follow the house rules.
Is there a guest suite available to rent at Misericordia Terrace?
Sorry no, there are no guest suites available to rent at Misericordia Terrace.
What light housekeeping is involved at Misericordia Terrace?
Light housekeeping involves cleaning floors, full bathroom cleaning and sanitizing, general dusting as well as cleaning kitchen counters. Should you like a spring clean, linen change or your laundry done or any other cleaning services, these can be provided for a fee. Additionally, housekeeping will stop by regularly to collect any rubbish you may have.
How much notice is required before moving out?
One month’s notice is required when terminating a lease.
Are Misericordia Terrace residents fast-tracked to Misericordia Place if the need for a Personal Care Home arises?
The panelling process for a Personal Care Home placement falls under the jurisdiction of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Misericordia Terrace does not have an official capacity in PCH placements. That said, every effort will be made to attempt to facilitate a placement at Misericordia Place.
